Lucid Dreaming Techniques
Lucid dreams are the dreams where people know that they are dreaming while the dream is in progress. There are several techniques available for controlling your dreams that have been practiced for centuries.
At the lowest level, the dreamer may be roughly aware that it is a dream. However, the person may not realize that the events, people and the actions in the dreams are not real, and do not pose any threat.
Below are a few effective and common lucid dreaming techniques:
1. Learn the best time to have lucid dreams.
2. Reports assert that the best lucid dreaming technique is to have a nap a few hours after waking up in the morning.
3. Dreams regularly run in 90-minute cycles during sleep. Attempt to wake up during one of these cycles then go back to sleep.
4. Set the alarm clock to ring four to six hours after falling asleep.
5. Try to remember the dream as much as possible after waking up.
6. Go back to sleep after remembering the dream. Imagine being present in the previous dream. Continue this until the feeling has sunk in.
7. Try to repeat imagining, if random thoughts arouse in mind. Do not worry, if it takes long time. The longer it takes, the more likely it will sink in.
8. One of the most important methods to establish a foundation for lucid dreaming is to keep a dream journal. Keep it close to your bedside at night. Write down the dreams immediately after waking. Otherwise, keep a recording device handy.
9. Lucid dreaming link with REM. They largely occur right before waking up. So, concentrate on REM dreams.
10. People with narcolepsy have sleep onset REM. Therefore, if a person has lucid dreams right after falling asleep, it is a sign of narcolepsy. Hence, medical advice is necessary.
However, there are several other lucid dream techniques too, where people report that they recall their dreams after being awaken, during non-REM stages of sleep.

You must establish a habit of reality checks during your dreams. However, to execute reality checks in dreams, people need to incorporate these techniques.
1. Most often, the image of the dreamer appears to be blurred in a dream. At such time, practice looking in the mirror.
2. In a dream, a person most often sees the very blurred images of others. Hence, try to glance at the hands and ensure that it is a dream and not reality.
